I wish....

I wish I had something amazingly funny to tell you, but I don't.

I wish my husband was home from being with his father who just had surgery to remove a football size cancerous tumor from his leg.

I wish my father-in-law never had a football size cancerous tumor, or any tumor for that matter.

I wish I would have eaten my children when they were little (hahahaah just kidding)

I wish I lived somewhere where the temperature is always 75 degrees and the sun always shines and there was no humidity.

I wish I could talk to the bird on my windowsill and he would understand me (and the girl that sits outside my office didn't think I was crazy or weird for talking birdspeak).

I wish it were Saturday and I was at BHE's house with something cold and fruity in my hand.

I wish my friend would ditch cleaning her house tomorrow and come see Jason Aldean with me.

I wish I had a job that didn't actually require me to work. Maybe I should have applied for the Best Job in the World.

I wish I weighed now, what I weighed when I got married, but didn't have to diet or excise to weigh that.

Do any of you have any wishes?

Because I am not real focused today......

  • Why do I always seem to catch myself staring out the window at work? Wishful thinking I guess.

  • What the heck is wrong with Chris Brown? Is he stupid? Oh wait never mind… I’m pretty sure I know the answer to that question! By the way Did you hear they got back together?

  • My 401K- now it is only a 201K ;)

  • I think it’s weird that they have special cleaners for front load washers…. I mean it is a WASHING machine. I wonder where I can buy them, my washing machine needs a good wash.

  • Why don’t teenagers come with an instruction booklet and a money back guarantee?

  • Can you believe there is actually a West Virginia legislator who wants to BAN BARBIE? Why? Because he thinks it gives young girls an image that if you’re beautiful you don’t have to be smart. It’s freakin’ BARBIE!

  • I think I’m addicted to Vitamin Water. I love to read the stories on the sides of the bottles. Plus it’s something to drink with fewer calories than soda or sweet tea but taste better than regular water.

  • I never realized how many Tom Petty songs I really like and that I actually know the words to until they had a song block on the radio today.

  • I’m glad it’s Friday and I can enjoy the beautiful WARM weekend. Even if there is still snow on the ground! I hope all of you enjoy yours as much as I plan on enjoying mine!!

Cheers everyone!

That was then.....

I have been connecting with old high school friends on FaceBook and they kept posting all these old high school pictures. After I told my mom this she decided to pull out the photo albums- haha it must be nice to be so organized that you have your albums in date order. Oh how I wish I could be her, haha! Anyway, she brought me my high school one and Cheerleader Girl and I got a kick out of looking at my old cheerleading, homecoming and prom pictures. And then there was this.....................

OOOOOooooo how I wish I was that tiny again. But the hair ??? Not quite as big as some, but BHE are you jealous ? And how about that car- 1979 Chevy Monte Carlo. Gosh I loved that car...

Bit of a mid-life crisis

I’m not sure at what age “mid-life” begins, but I’m thinking it doesn’t really matter. I think I am having a crisis regardless of what part of my life I might be in (beginning, middle, or Heaven forbid, the end).

I am turning 40 this year- YUCK. Getting older never really bothered me, and most of my friends are past this milestone, so I am not sure why this year, this particular birthday is bothering me (note, it’s not until July, so why its an issue already, I’m not sure about that either). My husband says we won’t have a “40 years old party” but a “39 again” party. Wtf is the difference! Anyway….

I went to THAT doctor a couple weeks ago, and she told me I was fine, but that this little issue I’ve got going on is hormonal- wow- really? I’m only 39 (again!).

My youngest,
Bud, just got his learners’ permit to drive a freaking car…. A real car, not a go-cart, not a golf-cart, a real life honest to goodness 4000 pound vehicle. (Did I mention I am turning 40- Lord help my heart). He’s a good driver as far as inexperience goes, but for heavens sake, it’s just one more thing to mark off my parental list of things to accomplish. Cheerleader Girl got her license last June, and for some reason that didn’t affect me like this one has… maybe because I knew then, I still had one more…. Well so much for one more. I still remember him as a little boy still to small to see over the steering wheel of the riding lawn mower while riding on Papa's lap!

And then, my oldest, Cheerleader Girl, is looking at colleges. I think THAT is really what is bringing all of this to a head. She is a junior this year, but we are already planning for classes in her senior year, registering for SAT’s, scheduling college visits, and applying for scholarships. We are really close, so I have been very involved in the process, which will make her going away that much harder : (

I know, I know, I should probably be thankful that I have a healthy family, I am healthy, albeit, hormonal, I have a job, my husband still has a job, and we can still pay our bills. And I am very, very thankful, but and for God’s sake, I just want time to STOP moving, just for a little while.…. Except that I would very much like for 5 o’clock to get here first ;)

Here's a little story ....

Okay, I am completely overwhelmed by the number of people participating in, and succeeding at BHE's Blogger Butt Smackdown. I am so proud of you, keep up the good work. I, however, because I am unmotivated, and well- just lazy- am not currently participating (well I am, but I'm not telling anyone, that way if(when) I fail, I will not have to admit my failures in bloggy world). So, because there are so many of you out there, dieting.... excercising.... dieting...... excercising..... i thought I would share a little story ;)

For my birthday this year, my daughter (the dear) purchased a week of personal training at the local health club for me. Although I am still in great shape since being a high school cheerleader 26 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Belinda, who identified herself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear. My daughter seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started!

The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

MONDAY:
Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Belinda waiting for me. She is something of a Greek goddess - with blonde hair, dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile. Woo-Hoo!! Belinda gave me a tour and showed me the machines. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which she conducted her aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring! Belinda was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time she was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week-!!

TUESDAY:
I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Belinda made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then she put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. Belinda's rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT-!! It's a whole new life for me.

WEDNESDAY:
The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn't try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot. Belinda was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members. Her voice is a little too perky for early in the morning and when she scolds, she gets this nasally whines that is VERY annoying. My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Belinda put me on the stair monster. Why the Hell would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Belinda told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. She said some other shit too.

THURSDAY:
Belinda was waiting for me with her vampire-like teeth exposed as her thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn't help being a half an hour late; it took me that long to tie my shoes. Belinda took me to work out with dumbbells. When she was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. She sent another skinny bitch to find me. Then, as punishment, she put me on the rowing machine -- which I sank.

FRIDAY:
I hate that bitch Belinda more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anemic, anorexic little cheerleader. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat her with it. Belinda wanted me to work on my triceps. I don't have any triceps! And if you don't want dents in the floor, don't hand me the damned barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich. The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn't it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?

SATURDAY:
Belinda left a message on my answering machine in her grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing her made me want to smash the machine with my planner. However, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel.

SUNDAY:
I'm having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my daughter (the little shit) will choose a gift for me that is fun -- like a root canal or a hysterectomy. I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!!

Disclaimer: I'm pretty sure this must be based on a true strory. One I didn't write, nor do I know who did, but because I have once experienced a week of HELL as described in this story, I thought it was just too damn funny not to share :)

24

I have decided that "24" is the Best. Show. On. Television. Thank goodness for my DVR (for many, many reasons, but that's a post for another day).
As I was watching THE show of the season last night (yes, I'm a little behind- but did you read the part about my DVR), I realized that it didn't make sense for me to be so excited about a television show. And then I realized, I just. Don't. Care. I love this show! Jack Bauer is my hero!

Anyone else watch this show? Are you as obsessed as me?

Oh my.. It's been awhile!

As I sit here and listen to the radio- Staind's song "Its been awhile" is playing on the radio, so I figuered it was time I got back to this blogging thing. I could come up with a number of reasons I haven't been out here, but I will just leave it at "I'm just lazy!"

So, with the New Year, I decided it was time to get back! My kids keep me extremely busy, but I still need "me" time and I decided, I would spend some of it out here in blogger world....

With that, I'll leave you wondering what wonderful things I have to say about this new year......

Please forgive me......

I have been busier than a one-armed paper hanger and that’s just pretty darn busy. I feel as if I have neglected my blogging friends, but please know it has not been intentional. I kept hoping things would settle down….. I’m still hoping. I also thought with a teenage driver, the busy one of the family, I would have more time. Why is it that I feel as if I have less- and she provides her own transportation and transports her brother too?? I promise to start blogging again…. Soon….. I hope……

I need to learn to cook

So, my friend posts a really amazing Cheesecake recipe… I post a really short, but really easy and really good sandwich recipe. Something is very wrong. I really need to learn to cook. I would love to give credit to the person that invented it, but unfortunately, I am not sure who that is. At any rate, it’s quick, easy recipe that is really good.

Italian Steak Sandwich

Med onion, thinly sliced
Med green pepper, thinly sliced
Med sweet pepper, thinly sliced
½ c. mayonnaise, divided
¾ c. thinly sliced deli roast beef
¼ c. Italian salad dressing
5 sandwich rolls, split
¾ c. shredded mozzarella cheese

In large skillet, sauté the onion and peppers in 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise until crisp-tender. Remove and keep warm.

In same skillet, add roast beef, Italian dressing, and remaining mayonnaise. Cook and stir 4-5 minutes or until heated through.

In broiler, toast sandwich rolls. Place roast beef and vegetables on rolls, sprinkle with cheese. Place sandwich back in oven to melt cheese.

Serve with chips or fries. Enjoy!

This is great when you want more than a sandwich, but don’t have time for a full meal.

The Easy Eight

My mom called me this morning and told me I have to go see Mama Mia and that it would be a great movie for the “Easy Eight.” I thought that was such a cute nickname for this group of friends I have, there are 3 of them, all of whom have daughters the same age as mine, and I thought it would be a good time to introduce them to my fellow bloggers. Actually, if it wasn’t for our daughters, I may not have ever met them. Moms + Daughters = “Easy Eight.” It’s kind of like the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants………

We met when Cheerleader Girl was in the 3rd grade (she is starting her 11th grade year in September, where does the time go?). All 4 girls cheered for the local recreational football team and became fast friends. Their moms and I became fast friends as well. There’s
Big Hair Envy and her daughter Snow White, my beach buddies. Snow White is the actress/singer of the group- The one who we will all be sitting in the audience on Broadway cheering on because she has landed her biggest role yet. There’s Wild Child and her daughter Barbie. Yes, she’s very much like a Barbie and we love her that way. Barbie has spent many a night at our house. There’s Beach Chick and her daughter Rocker Girl. Rocker Girl is the one who will be seen on the big stage with guitar in hand rockin’ it out to our favorite songs. Then there’s mine, Cheerleader girl. She’s not the stereotypical “cheerleader” just outgoing and fun. As you can see from their descriptions, they are all very different people, and in the beginning they were inseparable. Now, they have different interests, some of the same, but mostly different groups of friends, but in the end- they are still the Sisterhood. No matter what, they are always there for each other.

What I like most, is all of us moms have stayed friends through everything our girls have been through- both good and bad. We try our very best to get together often, although not often enough. As you can imagine, with teenagers and very busy schedules, it is difficult. Superbowl is always at our house and emails are always in order! We started a new thing this year where we are trying to get together for dinner to celebrate each of our birthdays, although many are celebrated together, but it has actually worked. Those dinners are KID FREEEEEEEE! Of course we have to plan them weeks, or even months in advance, but that’s okay. At least we are making it happen.

It’s good to be a part of the “Easy Eight.”

ps. maybe one day, I will get a chance to upload some pics on this thing.

Yep, its another Wednesday

As I sit in my lovely office and look out my lovely window at the lovely parking lot below, I am listening to – get this one- Foreigner warm up to play their concert tonight. My office is located next to a stage that hosts different bands, usually the older ones, and while normally the thump, thump of the bass and the drums as those bands warm up is most annoying. Today- it is not.

Don’t lie! You remember the days of “Feels Like the First Time” and “Double Vision.” I remember jeans so tight you had to lay on the bed to get them zipped, dark eyeliner, permed hair with too much hair spray, cruisin’ with my best friend in her brother’s Duster, jammin’ to “Hot Blooded” and “Cold as Ice” and I just new I was too cool for school! Weren’t those the days! I guess for today I will have to settle for the warm up as my schedule can’t handle much more for today.

So it is back to work I go, in my lovely office, with a window that overlooks the lovely parking lot, that holds my lovely car, that is patiently waiting for me to get my not so lovely butt in it and take it away from here………….. Cheers!

I'm new to this

Well, this is the life and times of a Mom times 2. I'm new to this blogging thing, but I saw my friends and just had to have one. She is probably much better at it then I am, but I'm usually up for anything, so I'm gonna give it a try.

I am the wife to an amazing guy! He continues to put up with me, though I often wonder why. He travels- alot- maybe that's it. He's my rock! I'll call him "The Salesman" since that's what the does. I am also a mother of 2 teenagers, both high school students. One girl, 16 going on 22- aren't they all? I'll call her "Cheerleader Girl" as she has been previously nicknamed (thanks bighairenvy). And one boy, 15, who wishes he was 16 so he could drive. I'll call him "Bud" as he was affectionally called by his sister since she started talking. Yes, they are close in age. 15 months to be exact, and we like it that way :) We have 1 cat, 2 dogs, and at last count 4, or was it 3, fish- well I'll just say- fish!

It's a crazy world out there, I guess for me it only gets crazier!
